Message from the Principal
June 17, 2022
Dear St. Mary's School Parents and Guardians,

The last day of school is Wednesday, June 22nd.  This will be a half day with a noon dismissal and no aftercare.  All of our families are invited to attend our End of the Year Liturgy at 9:30 AM.  Please remember that the main entrances to church will be locked.  Please use the ramp door closest to the school entrance.  That door will be promptly locked at 9:30 AM.

Today is the last day of hot lunch.  Please remember to send your child to school with a lunch on Tuesday, June 21st.

One of the best parts of this school year was welcoming back volunteers into the school building.  Thank you to all of our volunteers!  Your dedication and service to our school is part of what makes this community so great.

Today is the last day to register for the 19th Annual L. Scott Cuomo Golf Tournament on June 23rd at Van Patten Golf Course.  You can find a paper registration form here or you can use an online registration form here.  We are also looking for families and business who are willing to become a tee box sponsor for our Golf Tournament.  You can find a paper sponsorship form here or you can use an online sponsorship form here.

Yearbooks are in!  The pre-ordered yearbooks have been distributed.  We do have some extras for sale through the main office.  These will be sold on a first come, first serve basis for $25.

Each year at this time, we ask our returning families to fill out the Family Survey which determines if students qualify for free or reduced lunch.  A paper copy should have gone home with your child and you can also access an electronic copy here.

Due to the increasing temperatures, students may elect to wear their gym uniforms to school for the rest of the year, expect on days we are attending mass, such as June 22nd.  We also encourage families to send their children into school with water bottles, which they can refill throughout the day.

Thank you for another great year!  Wishing you and your family a wonderful summer,

Mr. Matthew Rucinski

Faculty Updates
Each year we say goodbye to talented and dedicated members of our faculty and this year is no different.

Mr. Matthew Murphy will be leaving our community to take over as principal of Mater Christi School in Albany.  Matt has served our school community for the past decade teaching students in fourth through eighth grades.  He currently serves as our school's Middle School Captain and chairs our Instructional Support Team.  We are so proud of Matt and I am confident that he will not be a stranger as he embarks on his new journey.

Mrs. Lisa Shimkus will be retiring following this school year.  Lisa has taught both first and fifth grades at our school over the past five years in addition to her other numerous years of service to Catholic education.  We will miss Lisa's unmatched dedication and passion for her students.

Mrs. Mary Wilcox is also retiring at the end of this school year.  Mary has served as a Middle School science teacher for two different periods over the past six years.  Mary's years of experience, immense content knowledge and fine attention to detail will be missed.

Ms. Alonna Garmley is leaving St. Mary's School to take care of her future newborn child next year.  Alonna is our school's STEM teacher and also serves as Math Support Specialst.  Alonna brought so much creativity and energy and our students will certainly miss her.

Ms. Ellissa Griffin will be moving out of state to be closer with her daughter next year.  You all know Ellissa as the first person to greet you on the telephone or at the front door.  Ellissa has been such an asset to our community over the past handful of years and I wish her the best.  Fortunately, Ellissa has been gracious enough to stay throughout part of the summer to assist in the transition to our new Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Amy Urbaetis.  I've asked Mrs. Urbaetis to introduce herself to the community in a video which you can find below.
