"Reach each child, teach the whole child"
Dear St. Mary's School Parents and Guardians,

In this email you will find detailed information that is pertinent to the first few weeks of school.  This includes information on Orientation Sessions, Beginning of the Day Procedures, End of the Day Procedures and our Lunch Program.

As excited as we are to reopen school, this is also a time of great anxiety not only for our students and families, but also for our faculty and staff.  May we all practice the Golden Rule during this process and demonstrate patience with each other.  I am confident that our faculty and staff will do the best job they possibly can this school year!

As always, please direct yourself to our Reopening Webpage for continuous updates from our school.

Thank you for your continued support and I know I speak for our entire faculty and staff when I say how excited we are to have students back in the hallways next week!

Health and Safety Updates
As per the recommendation from Saratoga County Department of Health, bandannas will not be permitted as acceptable face coverings.  Neck gaiters may be permitted, as long as they are made out of cotton and double-layered.

Please send in Immunization Records to the office for students in Grades 1,3,5,7 ASAP.

If you haven't seen Nurse Ann's video from last week, it is below.  As always, we will continue to keep our families informed as guidance continues to change.

Pre-K Program
St. Mary's School is proud to offer a Pre-K program where our youngest learners can learn and grow in a safe environment.  The hallmark of our Pre-K program is our child-centered and activity-based learning.

We still have openings for all of our programs for next year:
3 Year Olds (5 Day, 3 Day)- Ms. Beth Senecal
4 Year Olds (5 Day, Full Day)- Mrs. Flo McDonough
4 Year Olds (3 Day, Full Day)- Mrs. Jennifer Wendel
4 Year Olds (3 Day, Half Day)- Mrs. Carrie Devine

We know that our Pre-K families have many questions about how the health guidelines apply to our youngest learners.  Therefore, we are keeping document that is being updated regularly on our website that you can also access by clicking the button below.

Faculty Updates
Mrs. Ashley Richardson joins our Middle School staff to teach ELA and Religion as well as serving as the 5th grade homeroom teacher.  Ashley has her B.A. in Adolescent English Education from the College of St. Rose.  I am confident she will be a great addition to the third floor.

Mrs. Crystal Roberts will instruct Remedial Reading for the upcoming school year.  She is no stranger to Catholic education, teaching at Sacred Heart in Troy for 19 years, where she was awarded the St. Elizabeth Seton Distinguished Elementary Teacher Award.  Crystal has her M.S. in both Elementary Education and Literacy.

Ms. Beth Rucinski increases her role at our school next year as the Spanish teacher for Grades K-8 and will oversee the 7th grade homeroom.  Many of our students will recognize Beth as a frequent substitute in our building last year.  She has experience teaching in Madrid, Spain where she earned her M.A. in Bilingual and Multicultural Education.

Mr. Eugene Lorini joins our team as the Music and Band instructor for Pre-K to 8th Grade.  He earned his B.A. in Music Education from the College of St. Rose.  Eugene also brings his experience as Director of the Youth Choir at the Parish of Mater Christi in Albany.  I know Eugene is excited to eventually restart the band program later this school year.

Please join me in welcoming our new members to our St. Mary's Family!
School Uniform Updates
In order to allow our students to be as comfortable as possible, the St. Mary's School Board has approved changes to the school uniform for the upcoming year.

Students will have the option of wearing a navy school polo shirt in place of the white oxford.  Additionally, boys may continue to wear the white oxford without the tie.

For the month of September all students may wear their gym uniforms.

Yearbook Update
Dear Families,

Yearbooks are a tradition for schools throughout the US and Canada. At Lifetouch, we are humbled to be a part of providing that tradition. We know how important yearbooks are - especially in times like these.

We want to take a moment to acknowledge this year’s delayed yearbook delivery is not what you, as our customers expect, nor deserve, from Lifetouch.

We want you to be aware that our primary yearbook production facilities are located in some of the states that are being hardest hit by the pandemic. We have prioritized the safety of our employees; and we are following all state and local health guidelines to create a safe working environment. Social distancing requirements mean that there are fewer people available to work at any given time. These changes have impacted our production schedule in meaningful ways.

We realize this has created a lot of frustration since we are currently unable to provide an estimated delivery time frame for your school’s yearbook. Please know our teams are doing everything possible to get your yearbook to you. Shipping is monitored daily. As soon as your yearbook ships, your school will receive tracking information so they can arrange to distribute the yearbooks to the students and families in a manner that is best suited for everyone’s safety.

As we navigate COVID-19, our intent is to provide you with a yearbook that your student will treasure for a lifetime. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this unprecedented time together.
