July 17 email update from Principal Rucinski

Message from the Principal
July 17, 2020
Dear St. Mary's School Parents and Guardians,

I hope the beginning to your summer has been enjoyable.  At St. Mary's School, our Reopening Task Force has been working hard to ensure that our school building will be able to safely reopen in the fall.  This past week, the State Departments of Health and Education both released their guidelines for reopening schools in the fall.  We will be using these plans to determine exactly what St. Mary's School will look like for your family in the fall.  You can expect formal plans to be released the first week of August.

I can assure you that our faculty and staff will be prepared to deliver a great St. Mary's School education to all our families next year.  Our hope is that a majority of our students will be able to return to school with in-person learning, following the appropriate health and safety guidelines.  Capitalizing on the strength of our small school community, we have the space to effectively socially distance our student population.  However, we realize that many of our students may not be in school each day and our plan will include engaging all of our students- whether they are physically in school, or not.  This will allow each family to make their own decision to either have their child attend school in-person, virtually or a hybrid of the two. Our faculty is developing their remote instruction skills to continue providing our students with the same high-level of academic excellence that our school is known for, regardless of their location.

In order to best capture each of our family's unique feelings on school reopening, I would ask each family to participate in the Family Survey that is located in this email below.  Our Reopening Task Force will take your opinions into consideration during this time frame while we develop our formal plans.  I ask that you please submit your family's survey by Monday, July 27th.

I realize that this is a difficult time for all of our students and their families.  I can assure you that the safety and well-being of our students will be at the forefront of every decision regarding reopening school.  I thank you for your understanding and the trust that you place in our abilities to create a safe learning environment for your children. I look forward to sharing the specifics of our plan in the coming weeks.

Yearbook Update
Unfortunately, our school yearbooks have continued to be delayed due to a production issue from Lifetouch. We expect the yearbooks to be delivered shortly and will update you accordingly.

Thank you to Jill Roarke for all of her hard work on the yearbook!
Congrats Class of 2020
