March 17th principal's message

Message from the Principal
March 17, 2020
Dear St. Mary's School Parents and Guardians,

I hope everyone is doing well.  The teachers were hard at work on Monday preparing lessons and activities that will be fun and challenging for our students.  I hope the coming days will provide our students new opportunities to learn while we all reflect and put things into perspective during a challenging time.  I believe the best way forward during uncertain times is leaning on our faith.  I would encourage all of our families to continue to rely on our strong faith community, whether that is listening to Morning Prayer each day, saying grace before lunch, praying the rosary or just spending some time thanking God for all the great things He has put in our lives.

I know there are so many questions that you may have and I will continue to do the best that I can do answer them.  I'm sure you're wondering how long we will be closed for, and I don't think anyone truly knows that answer right now.  Superintendent Virgiglio has given me guidance that he will make that decision later this week as an entire system of schools.  I plan to honor his request and will disseminate that news when it becomes available.  Please know that the faculty and staff of St. Mary's School are prepared to provide quality distance learning to our students for as long as we need to.

I would like to take a moment to address what expectations I have from our students during our period of distance learning.
PreK- Students will be receiving daily videos from their teachers with an optional mission along with other at-home educational activities.
K-3- Students will be interacting daily with their teachers on a variety of platforms including: Zoom Conferencing, Class Dojo and iReady.
4-5- Students will be interacting daily with their teachers on a variety of different platforms including: Google Classroom, Zoom Conferencing and iReady
6-8- Students will be receiving daily assignments from all of their core subjects through Google Classroom.  Each teacher will be available during the day via Google Classroom or Zoom Conferencing and may schedule instructional time using these platforms as well.  Students will be expected to complete the Morning Check-in each day.
4-8- If any parent would like to receive notifications via Google Classroom for assignments, please let me know and I would be happy to set that up.
PreK-8- Students will be receiving activities from Specials teachers on a rotating basis.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any specific questions.  The school office will be open modified hours this week, so please reach out if you need to gain access to the building to pickup materials for your child.
